How the ratings work

Every US-listed stock above $1B in market value, about 2,600 of them, is ranked after each close. Each rating is a percentile: 99 means better than 99% of the rest.

EPS
Earnings growth: the latest quarters against the same quarters a year before, and yearly growth over three years.
RS
Relative strength: the price change over 12 months, the latest 3 months counting double.
SMR
Sales growth, profit margin and return on equity, graded A (top fifth) to E.
A/D
Accumulation or distribution over 13 weeks: volume on up days against down days. A means buyers have the upper hand.
Group
The industry's rank by its stocks' median 6-month return. Leaders tend to come from the strongest groups.
Comp
All of the above blended, EPS and RS counting double, plus how close the stock is to its 52-week high.

The Top 50 is the highest Comp ratings among stocks priced $10 or more, trading $20M a day or more, within 15% of their 52-week high and above their 50- and 200-day averages.

Questions, answered.

What are stock market leaders?

Stocks that combine fast earnings and sales growth with strong price performance, near their highs, in industries that are leading the market. Growth investors have screened for them this way for decades: big winners usually show these traits before their biggest moves.

How is this list made?

Every US stock above $1B, about 2,600, gets an EPS, RS, SMR, A/D and industry group rating after each close, blended into a Comp rating. The Top 50 is the best Comp ratings among liquid stocks that are near their highs and in an uptrend.

Is this the IBD 50?

No. It's our own ranking with our own formulas, built from Yahoo Finance data. The ideas are similar to the ones Investor's Business Daily popularised, but the ratings and the list are ours and won't match theirs.

Why are most ratings hidden?

The full ratings for all 50, and for every other stock above $1B, are part of a TickerLists membership (€6.99 a month), along with the same day's ranking. This public page shows the previous session's list.

Is it investment advice?

No. It's a ranking of public data to help you find stocks worth a closer look. Do your own research before you buy anything.
